    Student Edge is looking for individuals that want business experience and want to be rewarded proportionally for the effort they put forth. During your time with Student Edge you will gain experience in recruiting, interviewing and managing employees, marketing a business, selling to home owners, coordinating production schedules with employees and clients and in the end you will make a profit. We guarantee that all students walk away with making a guaranteed commission on their sales. The service that we bring to customers is house painting. The service that we bring to our student managers is that of a life changing resume building experience. The Company Our program is local to the Pacific Northwest and brings more than 25 years of combined support experience to serve our student Branch Managers. We don’t follow a franchisee model like our competitors where you are forced to put all the liability on your own shoulders. Our student businesses are covered under one license and bond, and all payroll processing is done for you and your painters. We give you the experience of running the business without the liability and allow you to return to school without the administrative responsibility that goes along with shutting down a business before you head back to school. Experience: Student Edge is multidimensional. If you are looking for an easy internship in the summer then this is not for you. An average student in our program can proudly say they walked away having ran more than a $50,000 business. Imagine now putting that on your resume or communicating that to a future employer. With Student Edge you are given the opportunity to be your own boss and make business happen. Your Commitment: Running your business is definitely a tall responsibility for a student intern. It will require you to work harder and be more focused than anything you have likely participated in to date. A very small percentage of our population ever succeeds at being an entrepreneur and very few students would ever think of pursuing something like this while they are in school. That is what makes this great! At the end of your summer if you decide that you don’t want to run your own business as a career then imagine being able to say to a future employer; Recruiting - I built a business through recruiting employees. This involved placing ads in newspapers, online and placing posters wherever I thought people might be looking for a job. - After sifting through applicants I performed over 100 interviews in a summer with Student Edge. - As I hired people I implemented them into my marketing program and eventually they became my painters. - I had to continually interview applicants through the summer as I had to ensure I always had a backup plan. Marketing - This involved strategically marketing my assigned territory and targeting potential customers. - First I coordinated mass flyer drops during the spring to get my company name seen. - Then I coordinated marketing sessions where my team and I could personally reach out to these potential customers by knocking on their door and offering them a free home painting estimate. - Additionally I advertised online, placed signs up throughout my area and made sure my business card was in as many people’s hands as humanly possible. Networking was definitely a key part of my summer. Estimating and Selling - From our marketing efforts we generated leads. This was either from direct cold calls to people seeing my signs, or flyers and calling in. Then I would schedule appointments to perform estimates where I would write up their estimate and try to close deals. Estimating was ongoing as I started in the spring to build my business for the summer and then performed estimates right until I returned to school in the fall. Production - This involved me coordinating my booked work with the employees I had hired. With this I had to make sure we were on schedule while making sure our work was of superior quality. My role was to ensure the customer was getting exactly what they had paid for and that my painters were happy and making money. Administration - Every business must be on top of the admin side of their business. Student Edge takes care of making sure all the tax remittances are taken care of, though it was my responsibility to coordinate the hours and wages of the employees under my charge. In addition to this I had a constant eye on my financial statements and made sure I was organized so that I could be responsible to my employees and customers. This opportunity definitely taught me how important good communication was with employees and customers. Our Student Interns tell us every year that they can’t believe how fast and fun their summer was. As a company we also hold three separate company retreats. These retreats are designed to reward you for all of your hard work and to give you the opportunity to network with the other successful student interns. Set your goals high! Training and Support: The point of our program is to take a student with no previous experience in business and train them. The training you receive from Student Edge is second to none. Our District Management support staff has 25 years of industry experience. We are there to show you every aspect of the business from the beginning to the end and to ensure that you are making money. Your business will get individualized attention catered to the goals you set for yourself. Not only will your District Manager see you in the field regularly (at least biweekly) but will perform weekly scheduled phone meetings with you.
