    Advocacy Intern

    Advocacy Intern Profile: - Education and/or experience in social sciences, international relations or related subjects; - Evidence of strategic thinking and proven ability to organise, plan and prioritise work; - Fluency in English and desirable good working knowledge of French (written and oral). - Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills Duties and Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) and the direct supervision of the Advocacy Officer of the Geneva office, the staff member will be responsible for supporting FAS’ Advocacy activities and programs. She/he will participate in developing networking, outreach, communication, monitoring & evaluation, as well as advocacy strategies, related to gender mainstreaming in the United Nations and link with FAS’ liaison offices in Dakar and New York. Principle duties include, but are not restricted to: • To assist the Advocacy Officer with the planning of FAS activities at the organisational level and follow up on the development of activities in liaison with colleagues, FAS members networks and partners; • To prepare advocacy missions and representation of FAS at external activities by the Executive Director, members of staff or FAS representatives around the world; • Organising regular and ad-hoc briefings, meetings, workshops, seminars, and other public information events and press conferences; • Manage FAS’ agenda and planning of events, update the website and produce newsletters; • Keep records and files up to date. Follow up on and keep track of event/activity reports for recording and reviewing of results; • To participate in conferences as a FAS representative. • To provide support in advocacy campaigns aimed at enhancing the representation of FAS in Geneva. • To identify& research relevant partner organizations and manage the processes of establishing and maintaining networks with organizations engaged in conflict-resolution, post-conflict reconstruction and gender issues; • Assist in developing and maintaining excellent relations with United Nations Agencies, the African Union, the Economic Commission for Africa, the African Women’s Committee on Peace and Development, international organisations, non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations and other partners; • Help write, edit, design and lay out analytical reports, publications, articles, advocacy statements, website articles and position papers documenting FAS’s activities on gender, peace and security issues; • Conduct research, analysis and information synthesis on issues related to gender, peace and development; • Support coordination of FAS’ advocacy campaigns in Geneva to other regional and international campaigns; • Participating in resource mobilisation/networking activities; • To assist the Executive Director and the Advocacy Officer in any other duties for the management of the International Secretariat and FAS in general;

    Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) working to engender the peace process in Africa. Since its inception in 1996, FAS has worked to foster, strengthen and promote the leading role of women in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts on the African continent. FAS works to strengthen the capacities of grassroots women's organizations so that they can participate fully in the processes of peacebuilding and conflict resolution in their countries and communities. FAS has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR). It is also represented in the African Union Women's Committee and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). In addition, FAS chairs the Geneva Working Group on Women, Peace and Security, which works to monitor the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
