    Education Internship

    The Butterfly House, a division of the Missouri Botanical Garden, is looking for interns in their Education Department. Interns will assist in creating programming or short presentations to be used for general public visitors. Other responsibilities will include helping with classes and Outreach programs. Interns will have direct interaction with the public on a regular basis. Interns may be involved with the following areas of our education program: 1. providing presentations to students and informal opportunities to guests about butterflies, invertebrates and their environments using live insects. 2. Helping with outreach programs throughout the metropolitan St. Louis area for classes and groups. 3. Staffing the instructional cart, a hands-on area, where guests can touch cocoons, insect molts, and many other items. Requirements include coursework in education and/or a biological field, as well as having at least a 2.5 GPA. All internships are unpaid and part time. If the internship is for college credit, the number of hours is set by the college, or 140 hours which ever is greater. The Butterfly House requires interns to contribute a minimum of 140 hours per internship. Interns are required to work a minimum of one four (4) hour shift per week and not to exceed sixteen (16) hours per week. The Butterfly House can be flexible concerning the number of hours and the design of your internship, based on prior written proposals with an agreement from the area supervisor. Interns are also required to complete a project (or portfolio) that will be informally presented to The Butterfly House staff towards the end of the internship.     The Butterfly House, a division of the Missouri Botanical Garden, is a tropical conservatory with 1200 free flying butterflies located in Chesterfield, Missouri. In addition to the conservatory we have an exhibit gallery, native habitat, events pavillion, and offer a variety of educational programs for all ages.
