    Fall 2007 Public Policy Assistant

    The Public Policy Assistant works primarily with the Executive Director to ensure that pro-choice issues are promoted and that anti-choice initiatives are stalled during the 2007-2008 legislative session. Responsibilities include: • Attend hearings and briefings at the State Capitol related to reproductive health initiatives • Track pro-choice and anti-choice legislation as it progresses through the legislature • Research local EC policy initiatives and develop a legislative and grassroots organizing plan • Develop educational materials related to current legislation • Updating the legislative section of the website • Other projects as they fit the intern’s interests and NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin’s needs Qualifications: • Must be fully pro-choice and committed to ensuring all women have access to the full range of reproductive health care including abortion • Excellent research and writing skills • Interest in legislative issues and processes • Outgoing and able to work with a wide variety of people • Ability to work creatively, multi-task and pay close attention to detail • Energetic and enthusiastic learner • Self-motivated • Experience or knowledge of the legislative process preferred, but not required. Hours: 15-20 hours per week. Times will vary according to legislative schedule. Length of Internship: September to mid-December. Unpaid, but staff will work with intern to obtain college credit.
