The Butterfly House, a division of the Missouri Botanical Garden, is looking for interns in their Guest Services Department. The internship will provide plenty of practical experience in working in the tourist industry and managing a diverse group of volunteers. Interns will assist the Guest Services Supervisor with greeting and assisting guests, meeting group sales and education classes, maintenance of the facility, and answering questions from guests about all aspects of the Butterfly House. Interns will be actively involved in recruitment and training of new volunteers, volunteer scheduling, and supervision of our volunteers. Applicants should have excellent communication skills, an enthusiastic demeanor, and a willingness to get involved. Requirements are an interest in working with people, coursework in communications, public relations, and/or management, and the ability to work at some weekends. Human Resource issues will be cover as they relate to volunteers. ADA issues that relate to volunteers and customer needs will be addressed as well. Interns will have to have at least a 2.5 GPA and either have completed or be working on a degree in a relevant field. Interns are required to work a minimum of one four-hour shift per week and not exceed sixteen hours per week unless otherwise authorized by area supervisor. The Butterfly House can be flexible concerning number of hours and design of your internship, based on prior written proposals with agreement from the area supervisor. Interns are required to complete a project that will be presented to the Butterfly House staff and/or volunteers. The Guest Services Supervisor must approve all projects.

The Butterfly House, a division of the Missouri Botanical Garden, is a tropical conservatory with 1200 free flying butterflies located in Chesterfield, Missouri. In addition to the conservatory we have an exhibit gallery, native habitat, events pavillion, and offer a variety of educational programs for all ages. We are looking for individuals who are interested in working with invertebrates, plants, and children.
