    Horticulture Internship

    The Butterfly House, a division of the Missouri Botanical Garden, is looking for interns in their Horticulture Department. The internship provides practical, hands-on work experience in a unique garden setting. Interns will assist the Horticulture staff and volunteers in maintaining the tropical conservatory garden, native habitats, prairie garden, annual garden, and grounds. Duties include, but are not limited to, planting, pruning, watering, and pest management. Interns will have direct contact with visitors and be responsible for answering general questions about the Butterfly House including questions about the plant collection and general butterfly questions. Requirements include coursework in botany, horticulture, or related biological field, as well as working towards or having recently completed a degree in a biological field with at least a 2.5 GPA. If the internship is for college credit, the number of hours is set by the college. The Butterfly House requires interns to contribute a minimum of 140 hours per internship. Interns are required to work a minimum of one four (4) hour shift per week and not to exceed sixteen (16) hours per week. The Butterfly House can be flexible concerning the number of hours and the design of your internship, based on prior written proposals with an agreement from the area supervisor. Interns are also required to complete a project (or portfolio) that will be informally presented to The Butterfly House staff towards the end of the internship.

    The Butterfly House, a division of the Missouri Botanical Garden, is a tropical conservatory with 1200 free flying butterflies located in Chesterfield, Missouri. In addition to the conservatory we have an exhibit gallery, native habitat, events pavillion, and offer a variety of educational programs for all ages. We are looking for individuals who are interested in working with invertebrates, plants, and children.
