Work exchange for Ironweed, spring and summer 2007:
Ironweed Cooperative at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage is looking for one work-exchanger for the 2007 season to work primarily on our hybrid cob/strawbale cooperative kitchen. The building is entering its fourth and (we hope) final season of construction, and this position will offer experience in all aspects of construction, including cob, earthen plasters, earthen flooring, earthen stove building, water system installation, alternative power system installation, finish carpentry, greenhouse glazing, and various artistic opportunities including glass and ceramic mosaic work. This position offers skill-building experience like an internship, but the learning environment is mostly unstructured. The work will be varied but the pace will be steady, and it can be physically challenging to work in northeast Missouri’s hot summer weather. There’s a swimming pond on site, which helps a lot.
Our ideal work exchanger would possess at least basic carpentry skills, have some experience in one or more alternative building styles, enjoy hands-on artistic creation, be able to work solo or with minimal oversight on individual tasks, and be a passable wholefoods cook. She or he would also be socially flexible, enjoying both frequent group activities and time alone.
Accommodation is tenting; food scene: 7+ people, shared, organic, vegan/vegetarian whole foods meals with cooking on a rotational basis; living in a village of 25-30 members with frequent, ongoing visitors, tours and other guests; locale is rural Midwest near small town (pop. 100). If you don’t fit all those attributes, but do fit some and are excited about this opportunity, please contact us!
This position would be for four months starting May 2007. Food, tent platform, shared shower facilities, use of DR common house, and participation in community life all included in exchange for 30 hours of labor and one cook shift of four hours per week.
